Running After Dreams

Great Hearts Academies December 6, 2022

We recently announced that our very own Maryvale Prep Football Team took home a CAA Division State Championship win in November, but we have even more state championship winners at our Great Hearts academies. Chandler Prep made AIA State Boys Cross Country Runners Up and Glendale Prep won the title AIA State Runners Up for Girls Cross Country.

Chandler Prep Boys Cross Country Team

The Chandler Prep Titans Boys Cross Country team had a stellar 2022 season before finishing second at the Arizona State Meet. The team included 3 student athletes who made all-state including first team all-state JD Ouellette, second team all-state Parker Stoft, and Sophomore Josef Iker finished third team all-state. This was the highest finish in the history of Chandler Prep athletics.

“As a coach you want to see your athletes enjoy the sport and hit their potential. I’m proud of the effort the team put in starting with summer running in June,” said Coach Dean Ouellett.

Glendale Prep Girls Cross Country Team

The Glendale Prep Griffin Girls Cross Country team capped off a very successful season with another second-place finish at the State Meet.  “Individually each girl ran a great race, but it was not enough to overcome a strong Phoenix Country Day squad,” said Coach Eric Webdale.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this team and the standard they have set,” continued Coach Webdale. “They’re thriving with one third place finish and three second place finishes over the last 4 years. They know there’s one hill left to climb, and I have no doubt they’ll come back stronger next year.”

We congratulate both teams for these victories as they enjoy the rewards of their hard work and determination.  This is just another example of the exceptional athletic programs offered at Great Hearts academies.  It is through competition that our student-athletes continue to grow and learn to be great hearted.  Read Athletics in Classical Education to learn more about the role of athletics at Great Hearts.
