Maryvale Prep Receives Grant from Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation Facebook Twitter Email This Post Maryvale Preparatory Academy February 15, 2022 PHOENIX – Great Hearts Maryvale Preparatory Academy’s Sydney Stewart Campus has been awarded a generous donation from the Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation to enhance classrooms, complete the library, upgrade athletic equipment and facilities and create areas for students with social and emotional needs. “This incredibly generous gift from the Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation will visibly benefit our students’ lives in so many ways,” said Maryvale Prep Headmaster Mac Esau. “Literally, there is not a student here whose school day will not be better in one way or another because of it, and this will be true long into the future.” Great Hearts Maryvale Prep is a Title I school that opened its doors in 2012 inside a leased church facility. With an ever-growing waitlist and demand for a full K-12 program, a capital campaign was launched in 2017 to build a permanent campus home to unlock the full potential of the Great Hearts classical liberal arts curriculum, triple the number of children served, and establish Great Hearts Maryvale Prep in the community for generations to come. With the support of several charitable community partners, the Sydney Stewart Campus, located on 9.37 acres on Camelback Road and 47th Avenue, opened its doors to students in Fall 2018. Phase I and II of the school’s construction included completing the K-12 campus with 38 classrooms, art and music rooms, science labs, a library, a media room, locker rooms, a shaded playground and an administration building. The Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation grant will help complete Phase III of the Sydney Stewart Campus through upgraded athletic facilities and equipment such as bleachers, a scoreboard and field lights, purchasing library books and furniture, and creating a sensory room to provide a safe, calming space for students in need. “We are proud to partner with Maryvale Preparatory Academy to help prepare future leaders for success by providing high quality education curriculum,” said Tom Egan, Executive Director of the Halle Foundation. Great Hearts Maryvale Prep serves 751 students in grades K-12 in a community where 40% of adults did not finish high school and college attainment is 10 percent. On average, students enter Maryvale Prep a year behind grade level from a median household income of $44,768. Maryvale Prep’s goal is to ensure that every student has a path to college and a life of service and leadership to their community. In recognition of the commitment the Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation has shown to Great Hearts Maryvale Prep, the High School Building will bear their name in perpetuity. “We are greatly looking forward to having the Halle name on our Prep building. They have been very generous partners in delivering on the mission of our school and in so many other places in the broader community,” Mr. Esau said. “Their focus here on creating a supportive and comprehensive learning environment to help students realize their full potential will be transformative for so many families in the years to come.” To learn more about Great Hearts Maryvale Preparatory Academy, its state-of-the-art campus, academics, or the school’s mission, please visit greatheartsamerica.org.
