How to Prepare for a Great Hearts Hiring Fair

Great Hearts Academies January 19, 2023

Two adults speaking in an officeGreat Hearts is offering a series of in-person hiring fairs over the next month, to connect aspiring educators and school staff directly with school leaders who are hiring for the 2023-2024 school year! Headmaster Zackary Withers of Anthem Prep shared, “The Great Hearts Hiring Fair is an ideal place for me as an academy leader to meet directly with talented educators who desire to offer a robust classical education to all students.”

Are you planning to attend? As you probably already know, hiring fairs in general can be exhilarating and exhausting all at the same time! And sometimes, they may create some anxiety as you imagine navigating all the conversations and questions you may be asked.

So, a little preparation can do wonders in alleviating your jitters and manifesting the best possible experience. Here are a few tips!

  1. Pre-register for the fair in your area! By pre-registering, you’ll be certain to receive relevant details, reminders, and helpful tips from the Great Hearts Talent Team about your upcoming event.
  2. Visit the Great Hearts website to learn more about our philosophy, curriculum, and approach. School leaders will want to hear from you about the reasons you are applying specifically to Great Hearts!
  3. Make a plan for which schools interest you the most. Great Hearts will serve 26,000 students in 45 academies this fall and doing some basic research on the schools in your area, as well as your preferred grade levels, will help you focus your attention on the right tables once you arrive at the fair. You are encouraged to visit as many tables as you like, of course, but don’t miss out on the ones that interest you the most!
  4. Develop a few talking points or questions for conversation. If you have already visited the Great Hearts website or know a good deal about our model, be prepared with a few topics that demonstrate why you are passionate about joining us, or how our philosophy aligns with yours. We love good questions! Feel free to prepare a few questions to ask school leaders that will help you discern what school or position is best for you.
  5. Have a digital or hard copy resume handy. While Great Hearts will follow up with you to obtain your resume, it’s always nice to share one with a prospective employer right there at the fair. Sometimes it prompts interesting connections with the school leader, which makes conversation flow much more easily!
  6. Consider what to wear. While it’s not a priority, many times it is optimal to choose attire that would align with the position for which you are applying. For instance, Great Hearts teachers wear professional attire, so if you are interested in teaching with us, you may want to opt for something near or at that level. If you must join us directly from another event that makes attire considerations challenging, please don’t worry – we are just delighted that you have chosen to attend!

Three adults speaking in an officeThere are plenty of opportunities for all candidates – whether aspiring recent college graduates, or military veterans, or career professionals transitioning from other fields, at Great Hearts we strive to provide meaningful pathways for you to build a career that impacts the formation of students both academically and morally. While we gladly prepare our graduates for success in the best universities in the nation, our main purpose is the formation of the soul, heart, and mind.

As a charter school network, Great Hearts has the autonomy to hire teachers from all industries, as teaching credentials or certifications are not required. Great Hearts maintains a model that offers training through the Apprentice Teaching program, with pathways to obtain bachelor’s degrees and other coursework and certifications while working full-time.

We look forward to seeing you soon at one of our upcoming hiring fairs! Can’t make it due to a conflict? Reach out to one of our Talent Team members to set up a call to learn more!
