Trivium Prep Boys Soccer Bring Home State Championship Title

Trivium Prep March 9, 2026

The Trivium Prep boys soccer team won the 2026 AIA 2A State Championship. This is the first state title in boys soccer for the Crimson Knights, defeating the Glendale Prep boys in a close and competitive 2-1 final championship match. This was a strong defensive year for the team who had an undefeated regular season and, until the playoffs, managed to hold off any goals from opposing teams.

“[It was] some amazing play by both teams and was the first state championship to feature two Great Hearts teams,” explained Jon Rickey, Director of Athletics for Great Hearts Arizona.

Besides the state championship, the Crimson Knights brought even more recognition to the academy. Nine of the players made All-Region First Team and two players made All-Region Second  Team. Senior Max Moreno won Player of the Year for the region and for the conference. His twin brother, Prospero Moreno, won Defensive Player of the Year for both the region and the conference. And Noah Messieha won Offensive Player of the Year for the conference.

Trivium Prep Team Celebrating

In a school-wide celebration, Coach Max Moreno, the Conference Coach of the Year and father of seniors Max and Prospero, thanked the student body for supporting the team. “When we had the home team advantage, you guys were out there. That’s super important. We appreciate all your signs, your voices, and your encouragement. That’s super awesome. We really enjoyed that, especially during the playoffs and the state final.”

“This season just meant a lot to us,” explained sophomore Brayden Carr, Center Defensive Midfielder for the team. “We came short last year and finally got to make up for our mistakes.”

Senior Prospero Moreno is proud of their win, especially after losing a couple of players last year. “For us to grow this year and be even better than we did last year and overall win the finals was just really great.” Moreno said the win was made even more special because of the relationships he built with his teammates over the season.

Congratulations to Trivium Prep on winning the 2026 AIA 2A State Conference Championship. Your hard work, discipline, and teamwork were on full display in an outstanding victory. We celebrate the character, sportsmanship, and perseverance shown by your team this year. Go Crimson Knights
