Siblings by Birth, Colleagues by Choice

Great Hearts has always been a place of family for Brooke Stephens, the assistant headmaster at Chandler Prep, with her own two daughters attending Archway Chandler and Chandler Prep. But it became even more of a family affair when Stephens introduced her brother, Kyle Bagwell, to the classical charter network of schools. Bagwell now teaches 6^th grade U.S. history at Cicero Prep. These academic siblings enjoy getting together to share their experiences in shaping the minds and hearts of their students.

“The opportunity to teach students to think carefully about the great questions and ideas that have shaped Western civilization was, and continues to be, very exciting,” said Bagwell. “Being able to talk with my sister about our work, exchange ideas, and encourage one another in the same educational mission of helping form students intellectually and morally has been a really special opportunity.”

The love of learning began early for this brother and sister duo. “Our family growing up always valued books, conversation, music, and good ideas, so I knew Kyle would be intrigued by the curriculum and virtues of Great Hearts Academies. It is rewarding as adult educators to continue talking about learning, teaching, seminars, and books together,” shared Stephens.

Sibling relationships are often the longest bonds in our lives, making it extra special when a brother and a sister share the same mission in their work. And there is still a bit of room for a little sibling rivalry whenever the Cicero Prep Centurions match up against the Chandler Prep Titans.
