Senior Breakfast and Blazer Ceremony Mark Milestones at North Phoenix Prep Facebook Twitter Email This Post North Phoenix Prep October 14, 2026 There are many milestones throughout the school year for upperclassmen, especially seniors, as they celebrate their accomplishments and count down the days until graduation in the spring. The first celebration of the school year at North Phoenix Prep is the Senior Breakfast, followed by the Blazer and Pinning Ceremony, traditions that the school holds each year. “The senior breakfast is really the kickoff to all of the celebrations for senior year,” explained Headmaster Erin Lentz. “This is an opportunity that our PSO puts together in collaboration with College Counseling and there’s a wonderful meal, an opportunity for students to toast each other and to recognize their parents and the teachers that have helped to get them this far.” Seniors took advantage of the chance to honor their classmates with words of encouragement and recollections of times they had been helped through difficult situations by their friends. Parents and teachers alike were honored for their mentorship and guidance throughout the past four years. Many of the exchanges came with overwhelming emotions, and there was a shortage of dry eyes by the time the last toast was given. At the conclusion of the Senior Breakfast, students and their families moved from the multipurpose room to the school gym to take part in the Blazer and Pinning Ceremony. The seniors took their place at the front of the gym alongside the juniors, in front of an audience of their families and underclassmen. “Today we gather for one of the most time-honored traditions here at North Phoenix Prep as we confer the lapel pins to our senior class and induct the juniors as upperclassmen when they don their blazers for the first time,” announced Lentz to the audience. “The blazer and class pin are visible signs of the progress they have made along the journey as North Phoenix Prep students. This ceremony marks a significant transition in the lives of our students. Seniors stand on the cusp of a new season, and these steps will build the pathway toward their goals. Juniors look forward to the experiences of this formative year when they will stretch in new ways and envision their lives beyond high school.” The Blazer and Pinning Ceremony is a shared tradition that unites Great Hearts prep academies throughout the network. While each campus has its own character, history, and community, and each ceremony may include unique variations, the meaning of the blazers and pins remains the same. These students are stepping forward as leaders. They are being honored for what they have accomplished and entrusted with what comes next. These additions to their school uniforms bring a sense of seriousness and importance to the ceremony. It is the taking on of something new, the recognition of their place in the school, and the realization of the responsibilities that come with that role. During the ceremony, juniors stood before their senior classmates, who placed blazers over their shoulders in a symbolic passing of responsibility from the seniors to the juniors. As their names were called, each junior was reminded of the legacy and leadership they would carry forward as the next generation of role models in the school. Next, the seniors stood before a loved one, whether a parent or grandparent, sibling, teacher, or mentor who had supported them throughout high school. Again, one by one, as each senior’s name was called, a class pin bearing their graduation year, 2027, was placed on the lapel of the blazer they had received during the previous year’s ceremony. “We are also recognizing how far these students have come as students at our school. So, it really is a beautiful milestone and marker on the pathway towards graduation,” said Lentz. “It’s a really beautiful tradition.” Do you have a story or know of one that you would like to see featured at Great Hearts?
