Salute to Our Great Hearts Veterans: Mario Avent

Archway Classical Academy Veritas November 9, 2022

Mario AventGreat Hearts Academies are pleased to recognize, celebrate, and honor some of the amazing Veterans in our schools who have not only served our country in the military, but have continued to do outstanding work to support the students of Great Hearts.

Mario Avent served one term in the U.S. Army.  His MOS (military job or role) was 91D, an Electrician Generator Technician.  He was stationed in Germany where he lived for 3 years.

“I loved the discipline, teamwork, comradery, and virtues I learned in the Army.  I strive to implement what I learned in myself, everyday interactions, and when I teach,” said Avent.

Avent is a 4th grade Teaching Assistant at Archway Classical Academy Veritas and works with Lead Teacher Samantha Landtiser.  “The students were very excited to learn that Mr. Avent is a Veteran,” said Landtiser.  “During our study of electricity, Mr. Avent shared stories about the large generators he worked on while serving in the Army. The class loves listening to Mr. Avent’s stories both about the Army and the many folktales he knows. Many of the students are looking forward to Veteran’s Day this year as another opportunity to thank Mr. Avent for all that he has done.”

“I appreciate those who make that sacrifice, and if they are able to do that for our country, I believe they have a heart of service for our children,” said Headmaster Mary Frances Jeffries.  “Mario certainly does have heart.”

Please join Great Hearts in honoring Veterans like Mario Avent who have served our country.
