Meet the Perez Family

Great Hearts Christos May 25, 2023

The Perez familyGreat Hearts Christos will open private Christian academies in Arizona for the 2023-24 school year in two locations: Evident Life Church at 415 N. Gilbert Road in Gilbert, and Redemption Alhambra at 1830 W. Glenrosa Avenue in Phoenix. Families are now registering, and they are excited for the integration of Christ-centered faith formation along with the proven classical model that has made Great Hearts Academies the national leader in classical education.

The Perez Family will be attending the Redemption Alhambra campus when it opens this fall. Steve and Kyla Perez are native Phoenicians and high-school sweethearts. After Steve’s service in the Marine Corps, they married and bought their first home together in North Phoenix. They have four beautiful children that will be entering 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades. This family of six has an adventurous outdoors side and they said they enjoy camping, hiking, and riding on anything with 2 or 4 wheels.

The Perez family playing in the snowKyla belongs to a network of homeschooling mothers and heard about Great Hearts Christos from a friend in that group. The Perez family was immediately interested in the new opportunity. “Our family has homeschooled for 3 consecutive years, so this will be a significant change for us,” said Steve. “I’m proud of what our children have accomplished, and I know they are positioned well for this next chapter in their lives.”

Steve and Kyla believe parents are the primary formators of their children and they were delighted to learn that this aligned with the philosophy of Christos. “Building virtuous young men and women in the current culture is not a simple task, but one that God has called us to, nonetheless. I’m hopeful that the educational experience at Great Hearts Christos can reinforce the values that my wife and I are instilling at home.”

“Kyla and I are excited that the Great Hearts Christos administration has professed to vigilantly defend the purity and innocence of its students against harmful outside influences,” said Steve. “In a society where the dignity of life, marriage, and even gender is attacked, I’m excited that our community has a safe space for kids to grow and bear good fruit!”

The Perez kidsSteve said they are exceedingly grateful for the opportunity to be a founding family at one of the Great Hearts Christos campuses. “Not only are our children receiving a classical and Christian education, but with the support of the Arizona Department of Education, most of their tuition is covered. My family would never be able to afford such an experience. The availability of these seats, here in the 5th largest city in the U.S., 20 minutes from home, is an incalculable blessing!”
