Meet the New Head of School at Great Hearts Christian Academies – Maryvale

Dr. Oscar A. Galeano has been named the new Head of School at Great Hearts Christian Academies – Maryvale. Dr. Galeano looks forward to bringing a rich blend of academic excellence, pastoral wisdom, and deep commitment to classical Christian education to the Maryvale community this school year.

Great Hearts Christian Academies is the private arm of the Great Hearts family which offers a Christ-centered environment that grounds scholars in Biblical truth and the knowledge of God, combined with the high-quality, classical education grounded in the liberal arts tradition, the great books, and the Socratic discussion method that Great Hearts is known for.

Dr. Galeano embodies the classical ideal: a scholar who pursues truth across disciplines and integrates faith with learning at every turn. “I come to this role with several years of experience in education, having served as a high school teacher of AP World History and English Literature, as well as a Department Chair,” he shared. Dr. Galeano holds a PhD in Humanities, along with graduate studies in literature and theology, and a background in philosophy, which he says has shaped his commitment to cultivating disciplined minds, strong character, and a genuine love for learning.

But he is more than a scholar, Dr. Galeano is a shepherd at heart. “I believe that true education must be grounded in a biblical understanding of truth, purpose, and identity. It is my conviction that students flourish when they are guided not only intellectually, but also spiritually learning to pursue wisdom, integrity, and service to others.”

In addition to his work in education, he is the founder and senior pastor of Casa de Oración, where he serves families in the Spanish-speaking community. “I am also a husband and father of four young children, which gives me a deep appreciation for the trust you place in our school each day.”

“My vision for our school is rooted in three commitments: academic excellence, Christ-centered character formation, and a strong, unified community,” he shared. “I desire to see our students grow not only in knowledge, but also in wisdom—developing the ability to think critically, act justly, and walk faithfully in all areas of their lives.”

“I look forward to partnering with you, listening to your perspectives, and working together to create an environment where every student is known, challenged, and encouraged to reach their full potential in Christ.” Join us in welcoming Dr. Galeano to the Great Hearts Christian Academies community as he begins this important work in Maryvale.
