Meet Kelly McGreggor, a Second Grade Teacher at Great Hearts Christian Academies

Great Hearts Christian Academies May 8, 2025

As part of our continued celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, we turn our attention to the Gilbert campus of Great Hearts Christian Academies, the private Christian education arm of the Great Hearts family, to feature Kelly McGreggor, a dedicated educator who brings a remarkable background to her role as a second-grade teacher.

Headshot of Kelly McGreggorMcGreggor’s pathway to the classroom is anything but ordinary. She first studied linguistics at Moody Bible Institute and later pursued literacy development through the Summer Institute of Linguistics at the University of North Dakota. “Oral-only languages fascinated me,” she shared, “and I wanted to study one in order to develop a written form and create a literacy program.”

While living in Chicago, she taught English to Sudanese refugees. “I loved that experience so much that I spent a year working at World Relief’s headquarters in their resettlement department,” she shared.

Her passion for marginalized communities led her to Papua New Guinea, where she and her husband, a helicopter pilot, supported local needs through transportation and medevac services. Although her original dream of literacy development work was put on hold, McGreggor found new ways to serve. “I began taking courses on how to help children overcome learning obstacles,” she explained. “I volunteered at a school, homeschooled my own children, and supported other expatriate homeschooling families.”

After returning to the United States in 2020 and settling in Arizona, McGreggor transitioned into teaching first grade at a local charter school. When the opportunity arose to join Great Hearts Christian Academies, she eagerly embraced it. “I was immediately overjoyed,” she recalled, “as I had already heard such wonderful things about Great Hearts.”

McGreggor is especially grateful for the distinctive mission and community at Great Hearts Christian Academies. “I love the opportunity to be a voice of biblical truth in the lives of the students,” she said. She also values the strong, supportive parent community, noting that it is “connected outside the classroom” in meaningful ways. “While there are many private school options, I believe Great Hearts Christian Academiesstand out because they are grounded in the successful classical model of Great Hearts,” McGreggor added.

Kelly McGreggor’s life and career have been marked by a dedication to serving others. She is grounded in the importance of education and faith. We are proud to celebrate her and her colleagues this week and are grateful for the profound impact she has on her students every day.
