Maryvale Prep Senior Signs to Play College Football

Maryvale Prep May 30, 2025

In front of proud parents, coaches, teammates, and classmates, Maryvale Prep senior Camden “Cam” McCoy made his college decision official during a special signing ceremony on campus.

“This was my signing ceremony,” McCoy said with a smile. “Signing the letter of intent to play at Nebraska Wesleyan University, a D3 in Lincoln, Nebraska. That’s where God led me to and that’s where I signed.”

“I’m a four-year football athlete,” explained McCoy. “I started my first two years at Sandra Day O’Connor High School and then I transferred here for my junior year. I played running back and DB for my first year and then they had me switch over to quarterback.”

His versatility and commitment didn’t go unnoticed. Head football coach Tom Barringer commended him not only for his athleticism but for the character he displayed both on and off the field.

“This is Camden McCoy. A senior defensive back, wide receiver, returner, quarterback, running back, linebacker, etc. Plays whatever we need him to play,” Coach Barringer said. “Cam has shown the virtue of humility from the first day he started coming to our workouts, always being thankful for the opportunities and attention our football program and our school provided him. He’s taken the opportunities provided him at a small school here to become one of our top scholars, top athletes, and most importantly, top young men who walk our hallways each day.”

“I’m ready to play football. I love football so much,” he shared. The love for football runs deep for McCoy, starting long before his high school years. “That’s why I’ve been playing since I was 13, but I’ve been really watching since I was around five. It’s always been my love.”

He also took time to thank his parents who have supported him most. He is grateful to his mother. “She’s done so much for me. Always taking me to practice even though we live an hour away from here. Always buying me the newest cleats, the newest gloves, and even though it might have been out of her budget or what she was able to pay for,” he shared, while adding, “And then same with my dad. Always willing to take me to practice. He supported me throughout it all and I can’t be more grateful.”

With the crowd gathered on the bleachers, Coach Barringer brought the ceremony to a close with a moment of celebration. “Now it’s time for the actual signing. Cam, Coach G. put a nice, lovely pen out in front of you. Uncap it. Sign that paper in front of you as you take your journey towards Nebraska Wesleyan University.”

There were many cheers and a few tears of joy. It’s an amazing accomplishment for an amazing student-athlete. Congratulations to Camden McCoy and his family. Maryvale Prep is overjoyed to cheer you on as you take the next step in your football journey!
