Maryvale Prep Ends 12-0 Season with Championship Win

Maryvale Preparatory Academy May 9, 2017

Magic was made at Maryvale Preparatory Academy. With less than two minutes remaining, the Matadors were down five points in their championship game, with the momentum all but fully shifted to the Lincoln Prep squad.  In a true testament to their hard work all season, Maryvale’s team of just eight ladies fought back and won the game on Elyse Jeremiah’s jump shot with 10 seconds remaining. In just two seasons, Maryvale Prep become league champions and the hugs, high-fives, and tears that ensued between parents, teachers, and students demonstrated a growing bond in the Maryvale Prep family that will most certainly lead to more and more victories for these students in the years to come.

The Matadors had a total record of 12-0 for the season.  The first undefeated season in school history.  The first team to represent Maryvale Prep in a championship game in school history.  Many people do not know our team does not have an indoor facility.  Our team practiced every day on an outdoor court, sharing with the boys team.  We practiced through heat, wind, light rain.  We had a small team of 8, limiting opportunity to practice certain game situations.  Every single player was vital to the success of the team.  When one player struggled, another one would pick up their game by scoring or rebounding.  We took pride in playing fearless and tenacious defense.  Although we did not have many of the same amenities as other teams, we had heart.  We never gave up on one another.  We were truly a team.
