Salute to Our Great Hearts Veterans: Pierre Marcos

Chandler Preparatory Academy November 1, 2022

Pierre MarcosGreat Hearts Academies are pleased to recognize, celebrate, and honor some of the amazing Veterans in our schools who have not only served our country in the military, but have continued to do outstanding work to support the students of Great Hearts.

Pierre Marcos served in the United States Marine Corps for 8 years as a machine gunner in a Combined Anti-Armor Team (CAAT) where one or more platoons are operated in a detached role to conduct reconnaissance missions, combat ground armored vehicles and air defense vehicles with heavy weapons systems.  During his service, he was deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Marcos left the Marine Corps as a Sergeant.

“The Marine Corps operates on the virtues of Honor, Courage, and Commitment,” said Marcos.  “I’m proud to work for a school that promotes, practices, exemplifies, and instills human virtues towards our students and one another.  I feel like I am at home.  The best in me gets to work for the best in others.”

Pierre Marcos teaching in classroomMarcos is in his second year of teaching at Chandler Preparatory Academy.  He teaches Literature and Composition for 7th and 8th graders.  In addition to teaching, Marcos serves as the upper school’s 504 Coordinator, where he is responsible for ensuring compliance with all procedures and procedural safeguards required under Section 504/ADA.

Chandler Prep Headmaster John Paul Poppleton praised Marcos’ passion and dedication as Director of the House System.  Under Marcos’ direction, the four Houses at Chandler Prep create a positive climate and culture for students and staff.  The process builds character, relationships, and school spirit.

Pierre Marcos in the MilitaryMarcos just started a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu enrichment course along with a colleague.  They currently have over 20 students participating, and their motto is ‘Strength and Honor.’
