Great Hearts Roosevelt Cheer Coach Named “Coach of the Year” Facebook Twitter Email This Post Great Hearts Roosevelt April 27, 2026 The cheer team at Great Hearts Roosevelt competed at the Canyon Athletic Association (CAA) State Championships after qualifying in January, where they placed second in the game-day competition, and finished third in the stunt team competition, marking an amazing achievement for a young team with no upperclassmen. And to top off this great cheer season, first-year Head Coach Kenzie Roberts was named the CAA Cheer Coach of the Year. The acknowledgement came as a complete surprise to Roberts, who also serves as dean of students at the Buckeye academy. “I didn’t know that… my athletic director nominated me. So, when I went on to vote for somebody else, I saw my name,” she shared. “It was a voting process. So, to have other coaches vote for me was amazing. It was crazy.” Cheer at Great Hearts Roosevelt is made up of 28 girls, grades six through ten. “This is many of their first year cheering. So, that’s really exciting to kind of see their growth over the season,” said Roberts. The team competed with two routines in the qualifier before going to state. “Our game-day routine got tied for sixth and our stunt routine got third out of six teams. After January, we have been just continuing to practice,” she explained. “We made the necessary changes that we needed to do, added things in, and we felt really ready.” Their placement at the state competition took the team and Roberts by complete surprise. “I have goosebumps even just talking about it because it was it was such an amazing achievement for our team. Our efforts and the team’s efforts really showed,” said Roberts. Congratulations to Coach Roberts and the entire Great Hearts Roosevelt cheer team. We look forward to continued success from them as the team grows. Do you have a story or know of one that you would like to see featured at Great Hearts? Please contact jmoore@greatheartsamerica.org.
