Great Hearts Christian Academies is Getting New Campus Ready for Scholars Facebook Twitter Email This Post Great Hearts Christian Academies June 12, 2025 Great Hearts Christian Academies – Maryvale is opening its doors in a brand-new home, nestled in the west side of Phoenix. Families in the area now have a beautiful new place to gather each day for a Christ-centered classical education. The campus is located at 53rd Avenue and Indian School Road, next to the American Family Fields of Phoenix(home for the Brewers Spring Training games). This new permanent home is at the heart of the Open Sky Learning Centers building and will occupy the ground floor. (The educational hub also houses two other educational institutions.) During a recent tour of the progress, Great Hearts Co-Founder Dan Scoggin shared his excitement for the future of the academy. “This is the new permanent home of our Christian Academy… and we are so delighted to be here.” Summer renovations are nearly complete, with walls getting fresh paint, new flooring coming in, and updates in the classrooms that will reflect the beauty and purpose of the Great Hearts. As Dr. Scoggin walked through the main hallway, he explained that there are ten classrooms along the corridor, each about 700 square feet. “Remember, we have smaller classes, so that’s a lot of space for our students and teachers to use,” he said. “It’s a beautiful, clean, state-of-the-art campus that will serve our students so, so well.” These classrooms are bright and full of natural light, and a standout kindergarten classroom features a built-in sink and countertop area for easy cleanup after projects, and its own dedicated restroom for the kinder scholars to use. “Our teachers are so excited about this space,” Scoggin said. “One of the best classrooms in the Great Hearts network will be right here at Great Hearts Christian Academies – Maryvale.” There’s also a dedicated art studio and music room that will soon be filled with visual and performance student masterpieces, but one of the shining jewels of the facility is the large gym that will support both P.E. classes and athletic programs. The academy hopes to have their own sports teams in the future. In the meantime, the location will allow middle school students opportunities to participate in athletics at the nearby Great Hearts campus, Maryvale Prep. Beyond athletics, the gym will also serve as an important anchor for the start of each school day when students and faculty join for chapel time. “That’s the start of the spiritual day here at Great Hearts Christian Academies. It’ll be beautiful worship and scripture… before they go into their regular education classrooms during the day.” Outside, the campus features a playground, basketball court, and shaded trees. It’s a welcoming space for play and connection. Dr. Scoggin even attempted the first basket on the new court. “Well, not so hot,” he laughed after missing the shot. “But our students are better basketball players than me, so we can’t wait to see them here in the fall.” The school is now open for drop-in tours anytime from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Families are encouraged to stop by and see the new space for themselves at 3950 North 53rd Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85031.
