Leading Valley charter network building new campus for its Maryvale Preparatory Academy

PHOENIX, Ariz.— November 13, 2017—Great Hearts Academies has broken ground on its newest campus in Phoenix, with a ground-up build on 9.3 acres at 4825 W. Camelback Rd. The campus will serve as a new home for Maryvale Preparatory Academy, which has been serving the Maryvale community since 2012.

The new Maryvale Prep campus will open in August 2018 for the new school year, serving grades K-9 and adding an additional grade each year until it provides a complete K-12 academy in 2021. This new campus will unlock the full potential of a tremendous community asset for the youth and families of the community of Maryvale and, over time, will grow to serve 1,300 students. It will include upgraded classrooms, science labs, student library, art studios, music and drama rooms and a full-size gymnasium, in addition to other amenities.

“We are truly excited to continue to grow in Maryvale, creating more capacity to serve these deserving students and wonderful community,” said Wade Dyke, CEO of Great Hearts. “Building a new facility gives us an opportunity to design a campus that meets the needs of our students and faculty and allows us to incorporate critical design elements we’ve incorporated in our newest campuses. We look forward to welcoming our students and families to the new facility in August 2018.”

The campus will be built in two phases with a total investment of $19.4 million when completed. Great Hearts has launched “The Heart of Maryvale” capital campaign to complete the full campus vision. With a goal to raise $7.5 million, the campaign has already made possible the inclusion of a 500-seat performing arts center to house Maryvale Prep’s robust arts program, and a multi-purpose room that will support critical before and after school programs and tutoring groups at the campus.

“We’re a community on the rise. People are moving in. We need investment, and education is a part of that, but it’s more than brick and mortar,” says Phoenix Councilman Daniel Valenzuela. “Great Hearts is investing in the people of Maryvale, and we all benefit.”

The open-enrollment period for the new Maryvale Prep campus is from November 13th through December 11th, 2017. For more information about enrolling, please visit the Great Hearts enrollment web page.
