Giving Tuesday – Great Hearts Roosevelt

Happy Giving Tuesday! Today we celebrate our academy and all the great work that happens here daily! We are grateful for all the families that come along side us every day in building a virtuous community through purpose, trust, and traditions. We are grateful for you, the families of Roosevelt for entrusting us to cultivate the hearts and minds of our scholars through the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty. We would like to focus on our faculty who have worked diligently to cultivate a love of learning that will last a lifetime. We would like to highlight one teacher in particular that is a mere example of the great work that is happening at Roosevelt.

Although Roosevelt is a new academy, the enrichment at Great Hearts runs deep! This deeply rooted enrichment is what your scholar is able to not only experience but grow in daily. When you drop your child off every day, they get to enter a community of virtue, wonder and Socratic learning. Mr. DePauw, a Latin teacher at Roosevelt, has been with Great Hearts for 10 years. He says he teaches because he loves the joy that learning can bring to the scholars. He sees the impact that teaching has on a scholar by guiding them through our classical curriculum as they, on their own, discover and make connections by their sense of wonder. Mr. DePauw has various methods of doing this, one of the scholar’s favorites is his storytelling. The scholars get immersed into a role-playing story that helps them learn what it was like and to experience the highest parts of Roman culture, while learning their language!

Mr. DePauw believes that learning should be fun and when learning is fun, not only is there more being retained, but a passion for learning is ignited and carries them throughout their life to never stop learning. Mr. DePauw is just one of the many teachers here at Great Hearts Roosevelt that are such a vital part of your child’s education. We are so thankful to have so many diverse teachers, teaching with one heart: to seek Truth, Goodness, and Beauty in all they do.
