Dr. Scoggin Addresses the Anxious Generation at National Symposium

Great Hearts Co-Founder, Dr. Daniel Scoggin, brings his deep experience in classical education to the 2026 National Symposium for Classical Education. In his Leadership Track workshop, “Teaching Teenagers: A Classical Vision to Reach an Anxious Generation,” Scoggin addresses one of the most urgent challenges facing grade 6–12 classical classrooms today – how to teach and reach teenagers growing up amid unprecedented cultural and personal headwinds.

“How do we reach this anxious generation,” asked Scoggin, using the phrase coined by Jonathan Haidt, author of the #1 New York Times Bestseller, The Anxious Generation. “How do we serve these young men and women with classical education with a great rhetorical tradition to draw them out of themselves to Truth, Goodness, and Beauty?”

Scoggin will explore how classical educators can create the conditions that allow students to pursue virtue and knowledge authentically. How teachers and school leaders can motivate students to seek truth and develop character in an anxious age. Drawing on years of experience and reflection, Scoggin offers a hopeful and deeply rooted vision for helping teens find their place within the enduring tradition of classical excellence.

The School Leadership Track at the 2026 National Symposium for Classical Education will offer both practical and theoretical insights for current and aspiring school leaders. Designed to strengthen the foundation of classical education, this track explores how leaders can effectively guide schools to excellence through strong enrollment, successful fundraising campaigns, faculty development, and the cultivation of a thriving school culture.

Leaders attending this track will engage in sessions that illuminate the essential principles of classical leadership. How to build communities that support teachers, nurture students, and sustain the love of learning. Participants will discover strategies to help form students into thoughtful citizens and virtuous human beings.
