Anthem Prep Senior Receives Arizona’s Top Honor for Volunteer Service

Anthem Preparatory Academy November 8, 2017

Anthem Prep senior, Nicole Sherwood, joined Governor Doug Ducey at the 16th Annual Volunteer Service Awards, Arizona’s top honor for Volunteer Service.

Nicole was the recipient of the Inspired Youth Leadership award. The mission of the Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards is to promote an ethic of service and volunteerism and to recognize volunteer efforts that strengthen communities and quality of life for Arizonans.

Award winners were chosen by a statewide panel of judges.

Nicole was chosen for her efforts on the Governor’s Youth Commission, as well as her service to organizations like U.S. Vets, Phoenix Rescue Mission, Arizona Helping Hands, Foothills Food Bank Snack Pack Program, Vista Colina Family Emergency Shelter, etc. Her biggest service project last year was applying to be a Joy Maker for GenerationOn and the Hasbro company. As a Joy Maker, she received 100 toys to donate and she chose to give them to Arizona families with foster children. In addition, she worked with other members of the Governor’s Youth Commission to organize a statewide toy drive that turned the original 100 into more than 1,300 toys. When the Governor and his wife heard about this, they joined in, along with the Governor’s Office of Youth Faith and Family and it grew even bigger.

Nicole’s award was presented at a luncheon on November 2 where Nicole sat at the head table to next to the Governor.
