Senior Spotlight: Sophie Sieckmann

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy March 6, 2018

Scottsdale Prep Senior, Sophie Sieckmann

Sophie Sieckmann will be attending Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Vassar is a highly selective liberal arts college, and Sophie will wait to declare her major until the end of her sophomore year, but it will most likely be in the area of Humanities and Fine Arts.

The first thing that comes to mind about Sophie is her creativity—in art, music, and writing.  She is a published poet and has participated in many extremely competitive writing scholarships and summer programs including Kenyon Young Writers Conference and Iowa Young Writers Studio, and received a Silver National Scholastic and Writing Medal. She was recently recognized for her writing in the 2018 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for the Arizona Region. She was one of five students in Arizona to be selected for evaluation at the national level for the American Voices Medal.

Sophie is a very active student at Scottsdale Prep participating in sand volleyball, jazz/chamber singers, concert choir, Bella Voce (Bella Board Member), Rotary Interact club, The Spartan Times school newspaper, Diakonos and the SPA Mentor program. Many students have seen her sing the National Anthem and perform at our Coffee House.

Sophie’s favorite high school memory is singing with jazz choir at the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona. Sophie, we wish you the best at Vassar.  Please remember to share with us as you publish more works of writing!
