Great Hearts Spelling Bee

Great Hearts will host its annual Spelling Bee, as part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee program. This event unites the network’s best spellers in grades 1 – 8 in a friendly but highly advanced competition. This much-anticipated event will bring together students and their families from 15 of the 23 Great Hearts academies in the Phoenix area. The event is open to the public and begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Great Hearts Quayle Campus, located at 3102 N. 56th St in Phoenix.

This year’s Spelling Bee will feature a panel of judges including Dawn Wallace, Senior Advisor to the Governor for Education and Strategic Initiatives, as well as Teresa Strasser, Emmy-winning writer and television host, and Dave Hanson, a comedy writer featured in the New Yorker. His resume also includes writing for David Letterman, Jay Leno, and George Lopez.

The top two spellers from the following academies participated in vigorous school-wide bee’s before advancing to the network competition: Archway Anthem, Anthem Prep, Archway Arete, Archway Chandler, Chandler Prep, Archway Lincoln, Lincoln Prep, Archway North Phoenix,  Archway Scottsdale, Scottsdale Prep, Archway Trivium East, Archway Trivium West, Trivium Prep, Archway Veritas, and Veritas Prep. The top four spellers at our district bee will move on to Maricopa County regional bees based on the location of their respective schools.
