Alumni Spotlight: McCall Barger

McCall Barger graduated from Chandler Prep Academy in 2012 and will graduate from a 5 year Mechanical engineering Program at BYU in Provo, Utah in August.  She has been a Research Assistant for Dr. Christopher Mattson’s Design Exploration Research Lab for the past 5 years. She has had 2 papers accepted for publication. The latest paper is “Incorporating Global and Local Customer Needs into Early stages of Improved Cook Stove Design” for the International Journal of Product Development. McCall was the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the National Science foundation to study engineering methods that will help the developing world. Her Jr. and Sr. internship on campus were with Google, where she helped to improve digital literacy and bridge the digital divide.

McCall is now in her 2nd internship, is working with a car company in Tokyo, working on sensor validation for autonomous driving systems (7 months). Her first Japanese internship was assisting in software development, where she wrote drafts for two technical patents.
